Tech Update on Lion
Apple is promoting Lion, its newest Operating System (10.7) for the Macintosh computer. KHA programs are not officially supported on Lion, however should you choose to upgrade to Lion there is an easy solution that will allow you to continue to run our programs. The solution is to setup a separate partition or an external drive with Snow Leopard (10.6) for MacRepertory and ReferenceWorks and then upgrade to Lion on your hard drive.
However, your easiest option remains to simply not upgrade to Lion at all at this time.
If you choose to upgrade, we have provided directions below.
Note:
If you purchase a new Macintosh with Lion already installed (without Snow Leopard), you will not be able to utilize these partitioning options.
Therefore if you are purchasing a new computer, KHA recommends purchasing a computer with Snow Leopard installed to retain the ability to make full use of the KHA programs. You may then use the partitioning options (described below) to upgrade to Lion, but KHA still recommends WAITING to upgrade to Lion if you can.
We have contacted a vendor (PowerMax) who can supply you with a new or used Mac, with Snow Leopard installed.
Please contact: Mark Johansen at (800) 844-3599 extension 261.
By working with Mark, anyone associated with Kent Homeopathic Associates will be eligible for a 5% discount on a used computer or a 10% discount on a new computer with AppleCare ordered at the time of purchase.
Also, Apple sells reconditioned computers with Snow Leopard.
If you have already purchased a new computer with Lion, you can still run the Windows Versions of our programs by using Boot Camp or Parallels to install Windows and then install our Windows applications.
The Partitioning Options
Before proceeding with any upgrades back up your computer.
Apple recommends using Time Machine, or you can use your favorite backup utility.
Option 1
Setup Snow Leopard on a separate external hard drive and boot from that hard drive when you want to use MacRepertory and ReferenceWorks. If you'd prefer to not use an external drive see option two below. But this option is considerably easier to setup. Read the detailed steps here: Option One Instructions. Note that small, portable external hard drives are relatively inexpensive and easy to carry.
Option 2
Setup Snow Leopard on a separate partition on your hard drive and boot from that partition when you want to use MacRepertory and ReferenceWorks. Read the detailed steps here: Option Two Instructions. This option is more technically difficult.
